WebAug 28, 2024 · When trying to launch my laptop, lightdm didn’t run. Running lightdm --test-mode --debug, it is revealed that the display server was stopped because “no sessions require it”. Just below that: “greeter display server failed to start”. I threw some preexisting solutions I found on google (not really google) at the problem with no effect. Then you could try 390, 450 and 455. For now it may be best to see if 5.4 still works. I’ve installed 455 now, but the light display manager still fails to start.

This lets you, from the boot loader, tell the system to not start the "Log in screen" for whatever reason (maintenance, failure to launch, etc...) charles hardison
